New Year’s letter, 2011

Life continues to unfold in the village-M Aluze, the renowned butcher has closed his shop to “retire” and work with his son in the vineyard. The wines they are producing are already winning medals. Many of the vines are being ripped out as the Languedoc moves to produce quality over quantity-the effects are already evident as we taste test our way around the area.

We have had the chance this year to experience the high energy time of June & July as well as the slower paced winter. Both offer their special features and reasons for being here. More on that to come.

For us, 2011, is the beginning of our “retraite” as Andy & I spend four months here from Dec to April. The time began with family and Christmas celebrations-good food & wine, local customs and sunny days.

As we transition more fully into French life, we hope that you might have the opportunity to participate as well. We look forward to sharing this part of France with you.

Andy and Andrea Swan
